Developers contacted Chandler Construction Services, Inc. during the early design stages to discuss a progressive residential infill project in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Work began with a technical tie-in to century-old storm drainage as infrastructure was brought to the site interior. Domestic water, fire protection and gravity sewer were completed as road work progressed and construction began on building pads.
The project consisted of 23 single family residences, 3 duplexes and 2 commercial units with upstairs apartments termed Cannon Place. Marketed after the historic "row houses" of Charleston, this project offered unique challenges only a 300 year old city could bring. Brick-built storm drainage was tidally influenced, underground utility conflicts were abundant and space grew tight as vertical construction began.
